July 18, 2017 - Collaborative Curriculum for Engaged Learning & Community Workshop - Ten teacher-leaders representing the Florence, Rhinelander, and Three Lakes School Districts teamed up to learn to use Fab Lab equipment in ways that might help save endangered bats. The workshop started with a presentation by Kate Millan, of the School District of Florence County. Millan kicked off the workshop by describing how middle school students in Florence researched white nose syndrome and the impacts it had on the environment and the economy.
May 15, 2017 - Two FAB LAB Students Travel to Wheeling, IL to accept delivery of First 50 Products - Thursday May 11 was a big day for two Three Lakes students. Accompanied by Roger Luce, Executive Director of Oneida County Economic Development Corporation, we traveled to Wheeling, IL, to accept delivery of their first 50 products from Absolute Turn.

Three students used their Three Lakes Fab Lab to make a septic tank screen hose, which helps stops clogs.
Apr. 12, 2017 - Students Build Business Experience at FBLA State - Twenty Rhinelander High School students traveled to Appleton for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference. Around 2,400 students attended the conference, each with the goal of making it to Nationals in Anaheim, California. Besides competing, students attended workshops, took tours of prominent Appleton businesses, and met other students from across the state.

Mar. 29, 2017 - Parks task force distributes surveys, hears from public at Hodag Home Show - After a month of meetings and planning sessions, the Rhinelander Parks Public Engagement Task Force met with the public Saturday at the Hodag Home Show at Rhinelander High School to gather input to pass along to the city's parks, buildings and grounds committee.

Areas of focus include workforce development, with efforts to attract, retain, and promote a pipeline of skilled workers to the region. Initiatives include engaging K-12 students by providing manufacturing and other business tours, FAB Lab / Maker Space opportunities, promoting forestry, logging, and wood products careers, and collaborating with businesses to offer apprenticeship opportunities.

Sept. 21, 2016 - Oneida County Board backs loan to help Expera expand in Rhinelander - A resolution authorizing Oneida County to borrow $15 million from the state of Wisconsin Trust Funds for the purpose of financing a “pass-through loan” to the Northeast Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (NEWEDC) for the purchase and renovation of the vacant Printpack building in Rhinelander and purchase of the related capital equipment was approved Tuesday by the full County Board.
