Twenty Rhinelander High School students traveled to Appleton for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference. Around 2,400 students attended the conference, each with the goal of making it to Nationals in Anaheim, California. Besides competing, students attended workshops, took tours of prominent Appleton businesses, and met other students from across the state.

Rhinelander students competed in various business-related events like Accounting or Business Communications, all of which required taking a 100 question test. Many events also included role plays, in which a person is given a situation and then they must resolve it by communicating with a judge. There were also several speaking events that were prepared impromptu or in advance.

For each event, the top four places qualify an individual or team for Nationals. Rhinelander had two events earn first place: Haley Sisel in Healthcare Management; and Andy Padgett, Max Holperin, and Alec Lowry competed as a team in Global Business.

Scott Fox took third in his event, Personal Finance. Elliot Fehlen and Gunnar Millot also qualified to go to Anaheim by placing fourth in their respective events, Client Services and Impromptu Speaking.

Four other Rhinelander students were recognized: Markus Johnson, Matthew Reinthaler, and Logan Wild took fifth place as a team in Management Decision Making; and Matthew Herman was eighth in Agribusiness.

As a whole, Rhinelander earned the 14th spot for its number of first through fourth place winners. The chapter was also recognized for its community service efforts based on amount of time and members who have helped complete several projects throughout the year, especially Fall Fest and Trick or Can. For the third consecutive year, Rhinelander won first in Community Service.

The seven students who qualified have the opportunity to go to Anaheim, CA from June 28 - July 3 and compete against students from all 50 states and several countries.
